The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, a statutory body
established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 was set up in
July 1949 for the regulation of the profession of chartered accountancy
in India. The Institute has achieved recognition as a premier
accounting body for its contribution in the fields of education,
professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and
ethical standards.
Bhubaneswar Branch
of Eastern India Regional Council of The Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India was setup on 16 September 1979. The Branch
activities were carried out from rented premises as it did not have any
building of its own.
The land for Office, measuring 10000 Sq Ft., was acquired in 1997 out
of generous contribution of past chairmen and senior members of the
branch. The land, located in an institutional area in the heart of the
city, was allotted by the then Chief Minister legendary Late Biju
Pattnaik. The foundation stone was laid by the then President Shri
Rahul Roy in 1999 and the construction of the building with a plinth
area of 6000 ft2, was started in the year 2000. With the hard and
dedicated efforts of a few members and overall support of all the
members it got completed in December 2004. The complex was inaugurated
on 31 January 2005 by His Excellency Shri Rameswar Thakur, the Governor
of Orissa (Past President of our Institute), in the presence of Shri
Sunil Goyal, President ICAI, Shri Chandan Chattopadhay, Chairman of
EIRC, several Central Council and EIRC Members. The building has a
well-furnished auditorium with a capacity to seat 250 persons, a
well-stocked library-cum-reading room for 25 persons, a boardroom,
other modern office facilities and a large space surrounded by shading
trees.
There are five regions namely western, southern, eastern, central and
northern regions. There are 110 branches. The region wise branches are:

The Bhubaneswar Branch is under the jurisdiction of the Eastern India
Regional Council of the Institute and it came into being in the year
1979. Presently it is the largest branch in the eastern India region
comprising of the states of Orissa, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal
Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalay, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Since its
establishment it has been conducting various Study Circle Meetings,
Seminars and Conferences every year, to keep the fraternity abreast of
the recent happenings and needed changes relevant to the profession and
the society.
